Dwarka: Shabby state of direction boards indicates apathy from authorities

One of the features of planned sub-city of Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Dwarka, is guide maps of the city including the sectors displayed at almost every nook and corner. It was considered as a great help for people roaming in the city.

But, as time progressed, the boards turned damaged and rusted. Subsequently, the objective of erecting these boards got diluted as the information displayed on it became invisible.

There are hundreds of such boards waiting for the attention of the authority to get replaced or repaired.

Anjana Sinha, ex-general secretary of Dwarkadheesh Apartments in Sector 12 said, “Ashirvad Chowk is one of the most prominent places of Dwarka. There is a guide map erected in the vacant area at the chowk. The condition of the board is very bad and nothing is visible. I could not understand that despite knowing the facts why DDA is not looking upon it. Such boards must be maintained with proper information.”

Dwarka has been suffering due to damaged and unreadable information boards and missing direction boards.

Be it a master plan road or any corner of the sector or pocket, everywhere such boards are either missing or in a damaged state for a long time.

According to DDA, such boards were erected at all the major points of Dwarka including roads, sectors, markets, lanes and master plan roads etc with information and maps of the particular area and locality. But with the time, the boards got damaged and DDA didn’t take it into concern.

Ramneet Kaur, a resident of Welcome CGHS in Sector 3 said, “To make people aware about the sub city, these boards were provided. Once the guide maps were beautiful and informative but now only tin sheets stand on various places.”

“The colours of these sheets are almost vanished and the plastic charts on these sheets are completely damaged. You can see such boards in Sector 10 and 9 easily. One such board is near the signal of Sector 10/11 in front of DDA Sports Complex. Not only this but also such boards can be found completely hidden due to overgrown trees also,” she added.

The subject of such boards also was raised several times in the meeting of DDA but nothing has been done yet. Secretary of Brahma Apartments in Sector 7 said on the subject, “Dwarka is a properly managed area and in that such boards play a great role. These boards are a significant part of the infrastructure. DDA should think upon them and make them repaired or replaced.”
