Mission toilet: GMC steps forward

GMC has cleared 2,232 applications for government aid to build toilets in homes. A total of  9,717 people had applied for the Swachh Bharat Mission scheme.

"These beneficiaries will receive Rs 8,000 each," said Additional Deputy Commissioner of GMC, DK Sinha.

The Centre will bear 50% of the construction cost while the state government and GMC would be contributing Rs 2,000 each.

However, President of FedAOA, Ghaziabad, TP Tyagi isn't impressed. "How could there be just 10,000 people needing financial aid for toilet facility in a population of around 18 lakh," he asks.

Meanwhile, GMC has formed five teams to scrutinise the remaining applications. These teams will submit their survey report by January 30.
