MCG launches major awareness drive to shun usage of plastic

To discourage people from using single-use plastic, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) started a major awareness campaign urging people to shun its usage.

As part of 'Swachhata Hi Seva' campaign, a team of MCG officials visited several market places on Saturday and made shopkeepers and citizens aware to stop usage of single-use plastic.

The MCG teams have urged the people not to use plastic at Sector-4, Sikanderpur, Sector-46 and Guru Dronacharya metro stations.

The teams also asked people to take an oath that they will not use plastic for the sake of protecting the environment and will also make others aware of this.

The shopkeepers and people were made aware of the harmful effects of plastic on the environment. The shopkeepers assured that they would not use single-use plastic and will ask people to use cloth and jute bags.

According to an MCG official, various activities, including engaging every stakeholder, raising public awareness about the ill-effects of single-use plastic on the environment and promoting alternative solution, was part of this campaign.

SS Rohilla, PRO, MCG said, “With this campaign, we are creating awareness among the masses about the harmful effects of single-use plastic. The campaign started from September 11 will run till October 2, during which, teams will visit various places including markets, malls, railway stations, bus stations, schools, and RWAs to discourage people from using single-use plastic and promoting alternative solutions.”
