Gurugram: Residents rejoice installation of LED street lights at DLF Phase 1, 2

The residents of DLF Phase 1 and 2 have a reason to be happy as their much-awaited demand of installation of the LED street lights in the vicinity has become a reality.

Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has initiated the installation of street lights from D block of phase 1 on Saturday. Around 4,000 lights will be installed at the cost of Rs 80 lakh within one and a half months.

In DLF Phase 1, street lights will be installed in block A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and A block extension while in DLF phase 2, the installation work will be done in block J, K, L, M, N, O, P and Q.

This was a long pending demand of the residents. They said that in the absence of streetlight, the crime rate was rising in the area.

The residents informed that the senior citizens were not able to walk outside after dusk. They used to encounter several accidents due to improper lighting facility. “Several stretches were completely blind spots giving free hands to the miscreants for criminal activity,” they said.

Dhruv Bansal, spokesperson of DLF QERWA said, “We have been demanding for the street lights for a very long time as road accidents, chain snatching, cell phone robbery, and other incidents have been reported from the stretches where there were no lights.”

“Despite our repeated requests to the developer for the streetlights, no action was taken. The developer was not providing basic security infrastructure and maintenance despite regular increments in the maintenance charge,” he added.

Earlier, an agreement was signed between MCG and Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), a public sector undertaking of Union Ministry of Power, for executing the work.

RS Rathee, Councillor, MCG said, “After following the matter with MCG, the works have begun in the DLF 1 & 2. The work will be completed in both the phases by the end of October.”
