Residents of Gaur City’s 11th Avenue elected the first-ever Apartment Owners Association (AOA) in their society on Sunday. Ten members, including one woman, were selected on the basis of maximum number of votes.

The residents hoped that the new AOA would do more development in the society. They claimed that there have been many instances when the residents had to protest against the management for getting basic facilities.

“In my view, seepage in basement area is one of the key issues which I want the elected AOA to solve. Continuous seepage may weaken the strength of pillars which may cause big problem in the society,” said a resident.

The election was conducted by the election committee (EC). Residents had to wait for long for elections because there have been many times when the election dates were announced but the EC had to cancel the election for some reason or the other.

Jitendra Kumar, a resident said, “Differences in residents’ opinions led the EC to cancel the elections many times. But we are happy that the elections were conducted peacefully and in a transparent manner. Though I was a contestant, however I lost as I got less number of votes. I congratulate all the elected members and hope that more development will take place in the society once the AOA gets registered.”

Shilpi Gupta, who is the only woman member in the elected committee, said that forming AOA was necessary because the residents were striving to get even the basic facilities.

“Residents supported our team on the basis of the issues we included in our election manifesto and now it is our responsibility to fulfill their demands. Once the AOA gets registered under the UP Apartment Act, the committee will start working. There are many issues which are on priority and need to be solved soon,” Gupta said.

Gupta added, “To ensure that maximum number of residents participate, different committees will be set up. A committee to look after senior citizen's issues and women security will also be set up. Apart, providing security and better maintenance will be on our priority.”
