GreNo Authority calls for efforts to make city plastic free

In a bid to mobilise people in support of the mission to make Greater Noida plastic free, the Greater Noida Authority roped in educational institutions, market associations and resident associations. The authority on Thursday convened a second round meeting with the representatives of all the participating sections and made an appeal to join their hands in making the campaign a success.

The authority also held a meeting with the representatives of local businesses, mandi association etc to enlist their support for the cause.

Earlier on September 12, the authority had asked all vendours, including vegetable and fruit sellers not to use polythene bags at a meeting with the representatives of the market association and educational institutions.

“Co-operation of goods sellers and buyers is more important in making the campaign meaningful. During the meeting, the vegetable vendours' refrain was that buyers generally do not carry bags with them. Hence they have no option but to use plastic bags. However, they assured that they will request customers to bring their bags along," said an official in Greater Noida Authority.

The mission owes it to a campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from September 11 to make all the cities free from single-use plastic. “We have directed all social welfare associations, RWAs, traders and others to work towards making the Greater Nodia a plastic free city,” the official said.
