As per information available with us, the Police Commissioner will be launching the helpline number this week. Once launched, women police will be deputed on the duty receiving all distress calls and reaching out to the caller with help.
In Dwarka district, this helpline number will be available in the areas coming under the jurisdiction of 11 police stations. Apart from the three police stations in Dwarka, the other police stations to have this facility will be Najafgarh, Bindapur, Dabari, Uttam Nagar, Mohan Garden, Baba Haridas Nagar, Jafarpur Kalan etc.
The helpline number will be operated by policewomen patrolling on scooties. Five woman cops will ride three scooties in the areas.
These cops have been given training in fitness, self defense techniques, short-range firing etc.
As per the police, incidence of snatching and eve-teasing incidents are common in Dwarka.
Yet at present women hesitate to approach the police as they have inhibitions in sharing their problems with male cops. Deployment of woman police will solve the problem once and for all.
