Plogging drive marks World Cleanup Day in Noida

To mark the World Cleanup Day, a massive plogging drive was carried out on Saturday at Noida Stadium, Sector 21 A, in which around 2,000 members of various organisations participated.

The event was organised by HCL Foundation under corporate social responsibility (CSR) in association with the Noida Industrial Development Authority.

Members from several resident bodies, social groups, environmental organisations and NGOs were invited to be a part of the drive. They thronged at the stadium in huge numbers and not only registered their active participation but also contributed to the cleanliness drive.

The plogging was carried out in residential areas, markets and industrial pockets which were up to 2 km from each of the seven entry/exit gates of the stadium.

Rajiva Singh, president of NOFAA, (federation of Noida apartment association for high rises) said that they were happy that large number of people came forward in cleaning the city. He said that cleaning the city is the responsibility of everyone.

He said, “The drive started at around 7 am and we reached the venue an hour before. Organisers gave dresses, hand gloves and cleaning kit to each and every person present at the event.”

“To sensitise the participants about the benefits of wet waste segregation, the procedures of it were explained in detail,” he added.

The drive went on for one and a half hour in which about 1000 kg of waste was collected. The collected waste was then sent for disposal.

To encourage the participants for contributing in cleaning the city, the authority felicitated all those who collected large quantity of waste during plogging.

Ritu Maheshwari, Chief Executive Officer of Noida Industrial Development Authority, was the chief guest at the event. She declared the winners who were awarded on the basis of contributing the most in the drive.

She said, ''On World Cleanup Day, plogging drive was carried out where the participants cleaned the entire Noida stadium. To encourage the people, awards were distributed to those who contributed the most.”

Organisers also conducted Zumba dance session for all the participants to educate them about cleanliness.
