Plantation drive – a step towards pollution free air for Delhi-NCR

The Assocham Foundation for Corporate Social Responsibility (AFCSR) on Sunday carried out a plantation drive, 'Illness to Wellness'. The aim of the drive was to spread awareness on the rising levels of air pollution in Delhi-NCR and contribute to the efforts for protection of the environment.

The plantation drive commenced in Sector 137 of Noida, on September 22, in which volunteers from the sector had planted over a hundred saplings in the central park.

The drive will be carried out in different parts of the National Capital in the next five days. The aim of the plantation drive is to spread awareness among people about the harmful effects of air pollution and also teach children about the importance of trees and plants in our life.

Such plantation drives are the need of the hour especially for a city like Delhi where, according to a survey conducted by the World Health Organization (WHO), air quality is the worst among that of 1600 big cities of the world. This pollution level is dangerous for not only for the environment but also for the residents of the city. Children are especially vulnerable to the rising pollution level. Lungs of around 50 percent children in Delhi are damaged due to poor air quality.

Meanwhile, Residents of Homes-121, a high rise in Sector 121, planted saplings in their society during the drive.

Dinesh Singh, president of apartment owners association (AOA), Homes-121, said the residents along with their children planted several saplings and vowed to water the saplings regularly.
