Residents of Garima Vihar, a residential society in Sector 35, on Monday wrote to Ritu Maheshwari, chief executive officer of the Noida Industrial Development Authority, complaining about installation of a mobile tower in their residential pocket.

The residents have demanded an inquiry, by a team of experts, into the violation of green norms in issuing permission for installation of the tower.

D K Kharbanda, President of Garima Vihar Residents Welfare Association, complained that a mobile tower of a private telecom operator has been installed in the residential block-A of the sector. He said the mobile tower in the society was against the policy of the Noida Authority, which prohibits installation of a mobile tower in residential pockets.

He said, ''The association has received several complaints from its members complaining against the mobile tower. They are opposed to it as the radiation emanating from it would cause health hazards.”

Considering the adverse health effects from the tower, the association took up the matter with the CEO.

The RWA complained that a 30 meter high cell phone antenna has been installed in the society without prior information to the association. The antenna is probably for providing 5G signal in the surrounding areas of the residential pocket.

There are several residential flats at Sector 43 and Sector 35 adjacent to their cell phone antenna where families are residing for long.

C S Mishra, Secretary of the association, said they have urged the officer to depute a team of experts to investigate the site to find out how the tower was erected in the residential pocket.

He said, ''Investigation should be carried out to know under what circumstance the operator was given permission to install the mobile tower.''
