Under 'Swachhta Hi Seva' drive, the Greater Noida Authority has cracked whip against bulk waste generators who are violating Solid Waste Management (SWM) rules in the city. In last two days, the authority has imposed a fine of over Rs 5 lakh.

On Tuesday, ten entities were fined Rs 3.62 lakh for not managing the bulk waste as per the rules. On the other hand, six bulk waste generators were fines Rs 1.55 lakh on Monday.

Omaxe Mall was penalised Rs 1 lakh, Konark Steel Rs 50,000, GL Bajaj Rs 30,000, Arihant society Rs 26,200, Supertech ecovillage-1 Rs 25,000 , Crowne Plaza Rs 25,000, Sagar Ratna restaurant Rs 25,000, Barbeque Nation Rs 25,000, IIMT group of colleges Rs 21,000 and VSK Garden Rs 10,000.

Seeing no compliance despite several deadlines, the authority started the drive to penalise violators. Sixteen bulk waste generators have been fined so far. They were also warned of severe penalties if they repeat the offense.

Under the SWM rules, the authority had set a deadline on July 15 for the bulk waste generators to make proper arrangement. The deadline was extended twice to July 30 and August 15.

The authorities had also conducted workshops on every Sunday from May 10 to create awareness among the people about waste management, segregation, etc.

As per the SWM rules, anyone who generates waste of 100 kg or more every day is considered to be a bulk waste generator. It is responsible to take care of its waste by following the rules laid for waste management.
The bulk waste generators should collect, segregate and manage waste at their level.
