Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that power subsidy will also be given to tenants living in the national capital. 

He said that tenants would now be able to get the benefits of  Delhi government's electricity subsidy under the 'Mukhyamantri Kiraydaar Bilji Meter Yojana'. Under the scheme, tenants can avail free electicity of up to 200 units. 

Kejriwal said tenants will be issued a pre-paid meter after depositing security of Rs 3,000. 

People living in Delhi will not have to pay charges for consuming electricity up to 200 units. However, if there is a consumption of 201 units in a month, the tenant will be required to pay the bill. 

The CM also said that tenants will not require any No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their landlords. Kejriwal added that rent agreement and rent receipt will be sufficient to install the new electricity meters. 

On August 1, Kejriwal announced free electricity to the people consuming up to 200 units per month. Those consuming between 201 and 400 units would be given a 50 per cent subsidy by the government.
