Gurugram: 14-year-old raped, accused arrested

The Gurugram police on Wednesday arrested a 21-year-old lift technician under the protection of children from sexual offenses (POSCO) Act for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl on the terrace of a condominium in DLF Phase 2.

A case has been registered against the suspect under Section 4 of POCSO Act at the DLF Phase 2 police station. The accused, identified as Arun Kumar, was sent to 14-day judicial custody.

The incident happened on Monday night between 8 pm and 8.30 pm, when the minor was alone at home. In their statement to the police, the minor's family said that her mother had gone to Delhi for some personal work leaving her daughter alone at home while her father was out for work.

Police said that the accused was known to the girl. He lured her with a gift and took her to the terrace. The girl readily accompanied him. As soon as they reached the terrace, he bolted the door before committing the crime.

Narrating the incident, the police said, "The accused threatened the child with dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone. As she complained of pain after the assault he gave her some medicines and ran away from the condominium."

When her condition deteriorated, she approached her neighbours who informed her mother about the incident. "She was the taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors confirmed sexual assault. She suffered injuries and was discharged after the treatment on Wednesday," said a police official.

The Police said that the girl trusted the accused as she had interacted with him on several occasions. Members of the child welfare committee counseled the rape survivor and recorded her statement.

The police nabbed Arun from his residence in Patel Nagar, Gurugram. He is a native of Gohana in Sonepat and had been working in the city as a technician for the last one-and-a-half years.
