Wielding broom, cops in Dwarka set off on mission cleanliness

Policemen in Dwarka reported for duty early in the morning, much before  their schedule. But instead of baton or gun, to the pleasant surprise of the local public, they were wielding brooms.

In a departure from the tradition, on Saturday they were assigned with a new assignment – join hands with the citizens to carry out a swachata abhiyan (sanitation campaign) across the sub city.

The sanitation drive was spearheaded by DCP Anto Alphonse, Additional DCP RP Meena and ACP Rajinder Singh. The cops along with community people participated in the drive enthusiastically.

They were seen with broom in hand sweeping the entire area not leaving smallest of litter on the roads and pavements. They were carrying with them bags to collect garbage they were picking up from the area.

The drive was carried out at Sector 10 market near DDA flats; Kaveri Chowk service lanes in Sector 6; Ganpati Apartments and Manzil back lanes in Sector 9; back lanes of great Lalyalpur and Vinayak Apartments in Sector 10; Sector 11 and 12 market areas; service lanes in Sector 3, 4 and 5; Sector 18; Manish Mall in Sector 22; Sector 23 market; DDA pockets in Sector 16 and police colony.

Poonam Tyagi, a resident of Paradise Apartments in Sector 9 said, “It was a happening morning in society with police personnel picked up broom, in place for their traditional weapon, and went on a mission to render the entire area squeeky clean. It is a wonderful and memorable gesture from Dwarka Police.”

Set off on Saturday morning, the cleanliness week sponsored by the local police will continue till Friday.
