At present, thousands of such fitness centers are operational in Delhi.
A Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee ordered closure of all the Yoga centers, meditation centers and gyms opened after 2008.
The move comes close on the heals of an order to seal more than 600 shops in Rajouri Garden.
Citing violation of masterplan, members of the committee have directed officials of all the three municipal corporations and Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to seal these shops.
As per the members of the committee, Yoga centers and gyms cannot be opened on mixed-land use, commercial and non-notified roads after the cut-off date of 2008.
At present, thousands of such fitness centers are operational.
Moreover, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) officials have been directed to conduct a survey of such fitness centers so that its actual number can be ascertained.
