Understanding its potential threat to people, Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL), a power distribution company, has decided to replace rustic electric poles in Noida.

The issue was raised strongly by office bearers of RWAs during a joint meeting of officials from the corporation and residents from different residential sectors in Noida. The meeting was held at community centre of Sector 52 on Saturday evening.

KK Jain, Secretary General of Federation of Noida RWAs said that all office bearers of RWAs have sought resolution of the problems relating to their respective sectors. They complained that these electric poles can topple anytime posing serious threats to people.

He added, “Similarly, panel or junction boxes and circuit breakers are rusted and the cabling is of poor quality,” he added. “Due to the lack of timely pruning of trees, the leaves get entangled with cables leading to short-circuit. The shortage of maintenance staff is also a problem,” he complained.

VN Singh, Zonal Chief Engineer, responded to these issues in detail and shared various steps being contemplated for improvement of the situation regarding power supply in Noida.

He also admitted that the conditions of electric poles and feeder boxes are bad as these are more than 25 to 30 years old.

Further, he said that the work of repairing damaged poles has been started in some areas. Regarding damaged pole and feeder/panel boxes, Singh informed residents that a proposal has been sent to the competent authority for approval to get these old poles replaced.

He also advised the SDOs and JEs to keep in touch with RWAs periodically and resolve their specific issues.
