A group of women from Nilgiri Apartment, a residential society in Sector 34, performed dandiya at its community center on Sunday to mark the beginning of the Navratri and Dussehra festival.
Dressed in traditional costume, the dancers enthralled the audience with their captivating performance. Residents throng at the venue in droves to watch the women perform.
K K Jain, president of federation of RWAs in Sector 34, said that all the residents had a great time watching the performance.
He lauded the women from the sector for taking the initiative to keep a tradition alive. He announced that the group would perform throughout the festival.
Dandiya is traditional folk dance of Gujarat and Rajasthan and is performed during Navratri. The dance is performed in a group of both men and women with sticks in their hands. During the dance, the performers take rounds in two circles characteristically striking at each other’s stick making a rhythmic sound.
