GreNo: Peeved by delay, homebuyers demand penalty on developer

Weary of the slow process of development, a group of homebuyers of Supertech Ecovillage 2 in Greater Noida West on Sunday gathered at the site of the project to remind the developer about the December deadline for completion of the project set by the Greater Noida bench of Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority.

Holding aloft placards and shouting slogans against the developer, they demanded a penalty on him for the inordinate delay in completion of the project, the aggrieved homebuyers reached the balcony of the under – construction tower in a procession.

The buyers said they have been waiting for their flats for the last eight years and have paid their maximum dues. Nearly a hundred of them have already filed their case with the RERA.

The project was launched in 2010 and the buyers were assured of possession of their flats by January 2013.

Bhupendra Tiwari, who had booked a flat in Tower A-2 of Supertech Ecovillage -2, lamented that several towers are at initial stages, yet the developers have not restarted construction work.

He said, “Though at few Towers construction is on, it is very slow. At such pace, the work will not complete before the deadline which ends in December this year. We have come here to remind the developer that the deadline is not far.”

“Two lifts were to be installed for nearly 163 families waiting for their flats. But so far, there is no trace of lift. Tile work in the flats have not yet been undertaken. There are no fire fighting equipment. Plumbing work is yet to be taken up,” added Tiwari.

Amit Kumar, another flat buyer, pointed out that the developer had requested the UP-RERA for extention of the deadline for completion of the project.
