Residents seek TCP director general's help in takeover of Ardee City by MCG

Residents of Ardee City, a township in sector 52, sought the intervention of KM Pandurang, director general of town and country planning (TCP), in takeover of the colony by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG). A delegation of the RWA representing the township conveyed the message to Pandurang at a meeting they had with him recently, at his office in Chandigarh.

During their interaction with the director general, the RWA delegation submitted a letter along with the copy of more than 1,500  letters of the residents seeking early resolution of the issue.

Ardee City is one of the private licensed colonies in Gurugram where more than 12,000 residents live in 2,500 houses. In their letter, the residents pointed out that even after twenty years, they were struggling for basic amenities such as roads, streetlights, sewage etc.

Chaitali Mandhotra, an RWA member said, “Many of our blocks don’t have well maintained roads. Many of the roads are riddled with potholes causing trouble to motorists and pedestrians alike. The condition of the dysfunctional streetlight, sewage system, parks etc. is no better. The builder is also not investing to bridge the shortfall resulting in acute deficiency of nearly 60 percent of the minimum requirement of the colony.”

The residents squarely blame the developer for the sorry state of affair. They say they are paying for his negligence towards the maintenance of the colony. Because of him they are forced to bear the undue financial liability on routine services that include sanitation, garbage collection, sweeping of the roads etc.

A MCG house meeting was held earlier this month in which the councillors passed a resolution to send a proposal to the government for its takeover of Ardee City. Subsequently, chief town planner of the MCG requested senior town planner and district town planner to send detailed report of physical infrastructure and social infrastructure marked on approved layout plan of the colony within 15 days so that the proposal could be prepared before taking a decision.

Blaming the builder for all their woes, Praveen Yadav, RWA president of the Ardee City said, “He has abdicated from all his civic responsibilities."

Lamenting that the residents have to live in pathetic conditions even after paying a huge amount taxes, he said, “We have been requesting concerned authorities for takeover the colony by the MCG for a long time. We have even apprised them about the problems we are facing. We hope they will expedite the matter and provide relief to the residents.”
