Gambhir flags off awareness rally for plastic free East Delhi

As part of the campaign to free East Delhi from the menace of plastic, an awareness rally was organised by co-chair of Bhartiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Delhi Cell in Krishna Nagar and president of Men's Health Society Dr Anil Goyal.

Addressing the gathering after flagging off the rally, the local Member of Parliament (MP), Gautam Gambhir said, “Children and youth are the future of the country. They can play a major role in making the city free from plastic. Through their attempt, Delhi can become plastic free zone within a few days.”

The rally set off from Lajpat Rai Chowk. Around 2,000 schoolchildren, volunteers from NGOs, party cadre and denizens of Krishna Nagar participated in the rally.

Speaking at the rally, Dr Goyal explained how plastic has become a major source of concern for the society today. He said, “Plastic not only increases waste but also is also the root cause of the deadliest diseases like cancer. Hence, we all must take oath to use cloth bags instead of plastic ones,” he said.

The rally was followed by a cultural programme in which children from various schools performing street play.
