NMRC sets up plastic disposal machine at Sec 51 metro station

In an attempt to provide a better disposal system on its premises, Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) on Wednesday set up a machine which is capable to dispose off plastic waste at Sector 51 metro station.

The machine was inaugurated by DS Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs during an event where it was made available to metro commuters.

PD Upadhyay, Executive Director of NMRC, Manoj Vajpayee, General Manager/Technical (NMRC) and other senior officers and staffs from the corporation were present.

The plastic disposal machine would be used to crush plastic bottles and collect plastic bags. This arrangement would help in controlling the volume of plastic waste. Separate slots have been given for disposal of plastic bottles and bags.

NMRC plans to install more such machines at other stations in the near future.

Moreover, aiming to contribute more for the environment, NMRC also set up few stalls at different metro stations. It is for distributing jute bags to commuters in exchange of plastic bags/bottles.

These counters were set up at five NMRC stations – Sector 51, Sector 76, Sector 142, Knowledge Park – II and Pari Chowk. Commuters can deposit 20 plastic bags (size 6”X10”) or 10 plastic bottles (of 1 litre capacity) at any of these metro stations to get one jute bag in return.

The NMRC would be systematically disposing off the waste collected from plastic disposal machine and exchange counters.

NMRC had won the award for being cleanest organisation in a programme organised by Noida Authority under the “Swachh Bharat Mission.”

The award was given to NMRC by DS Mishra, Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Ritu Maheshwari, Managing Director (NMRC) and CEO (Noida Authority).

Various organisations, hospitals, hotels, schools, RWAs and market associations were competing for this award which was given to NMRC for the quarter ending July to September under the Swachhta Survekshan League 2020 organized by MoHUA.
