The Citizen Apartments celebrates Gandhi Jayanti with a plogging drive

The Citizen Apartments, a society in Sector 51, Gurugram,  celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, with “plogging” drive on Wednesday.

Plogging is a unique concept that combines jogging with picking up litter. Originated in Sweden, the concept has been adopted by many Indian societies for sanitation drives especially after the launch of Swachh Bharat campaign.

True to the spirit of plogging, many residents of The Citizen Apartments involved themselves in the activity vigorously and enthusiastically and collected as many as three sacks full of polythene from the society. In the process they sent out a message to the entire community against the use of plastic.
Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) Joint Commissioner Indrajit Kulhadia joined the residents to carry out the drive.

Speaking to CitySpidey, Virender Yadav, president of the society's RWA, said, “The purpose of the drive is to spread awareness about cleanliness among the residents of the society. The waste collected through plogging will be exchanged with foodgrain to be be distributed among the housekeeping staff and domestic helps of the society.”

“We also have banned polythene use in the society and are motivating others to protect the environment for future generation,” he added.
