Taking inspiration from the ongoing anti-plastic drive across the country, most of the Durga puja organising committees have opted for plastic-free traditional style pandals in Dwarka. In place of the plastic, the pandals were made of bamboo sticks and cotton.

Even the idols were made without using chemical colours and plastic material. Theme of most pandals were conservation of the environment with a message to keep the society free from plastic.

At Dakshinayan Apartments in Sector 4, the gate made of bamboo is the main attraction. On the other hand, Deepanwita Durga Puja committee made entire pandal from bamboo at Sector 22.

Speaking to CitySpidey, Secretary of Deepanwita Puja Committee, Samit Chatterjee, said, “We have made a different type of pandal depicting our traditional and cultural heritage. It's entirely a work of bamboo stick which makes it look beautiful and unique.”

Giving details about the programmes lined up for the D-Day, he said, “We have a plethora of cultural activities in which community people and artists from Bollywood and Bengal would perform.”

In the city, the Durga Puja is being organised at many places like Sector 6 by Bangla Samaj, Sector 4 by Shailiyan, Dakshinayan Apartments in Sector 4, Sector 14 by Aagomoni, Sector 22 by Deepak etc.

At all these places, the puja committees have focused on traditional and cultural heritage.

At the puja pandals of Aagomoni committee and Bangla Samaj committee, the gate has been given a shape of temple.

Secretary of Dwarka Bangla Samaj, BK Barua said, “We have made the gate with a mixed concept of different ancient times in India. It's unique. Kailash Kher will be performing on Navami.”

At Sector 4, Dwarka, Shailiyan Puja Committee pandal was designed in the shape of Thakurbari. Secretary of Aaikotan Puja Committee, Sanjiv Mazumdar, said, “We are focussing on environment conservation and involvement of community people in the cultural events.”
