Ravan Dahan will be held on Tuesday followed by a Bhandara on Dushehra from 7.30 pm onwards.
Residents of Express View apartments, a society in Sector 93, organised Durga Puja for the first time in their society. The festival began on Maha Saptami with prayers and aarti (obeisance) to Goddess Durga.
Sujit Pandey, RWA president of Express View, said he felt proud of successfully organising Durga Puja for the first time in the society.
On the occasion, khichdi (a dish made from rice and lentils) was distributed in prasad (an offering), also known as Mahaprasad. Cultural activities like music and dance concert, notably dandiya (a dance form) by women and children would be held from Sunday onwards.
Ravan Dahan (burning of demon king Ravana who was killed by Lord Rama) will be held on Tuesday followed by a Bhandara (community feasting) on Dushehra from 7.30 pm onwards.
To avoid pollution, residents have decided that they would make a five feet deep well for visarjan (immersion) of the Durga idol at the culmination of the festival. The well will later be covered with the same soil dug up for it.
The residents will also plant saplings on dug up land to add to the greenery of the society. Pandey said that saplings would be planted to keep a record of the celebrations. Every year one sapling would be planted so that children would know the years of celebration by counting trees.
