Women of Ramayana - a dialogue

I always wondered what the women of Ramayana era might have felt for each other. Did they ever get a chance to meet and indulge in a dialogue?

What if they do?

In this play, they do meet and express their anguish over each other’s decisions. They realise how similar they are irrespective of their differences and how important it is to take a stand for themselves and each other.

This bilingual play is an effort to contemplate, understand and bring forth the emotions of a woman through the varied characters of Ramayana.

By the end of the play, one not only gets connected to these women from past, but also feels a bonhomie amongst one another.

It’s a journey within… an acceptance of the complexities of emotions inside a woman’s heart.

Many actors, extremely accomplished in their respective fields, tried their best to recreate the saga of emotions and compassion of the idyllic age for the first time and were loved and appreciated by the audience.

Anamika Gautam, who conceptualised and directed the play, has been mulling over this concept since her last play at NSD - Why Agnipariksha.

She enjoys devising plays with strong messages and aspires to bring theatre culture to Noida. And with Noida circle of moms pioneered Ek junoon’s Mom’s theatre in 2017.

The play, which had many first timers including actors, music and lights, was a houseful and won hearts of the audience.

The intense and gripping script was written by Dr Neha Gupta, who is a blogger and medical writer. It was her first attempt at scriptwriting.

The beautiful and stylish costumes were designed by Neena Mittal.

The Founder and CEO Circle of Moms, Shruti Mittal, who is passionate about finding new avenues and options to bring positive change in the society spoke about how dreaming with the eyes open can actually converts the dream into reality.

The Chief guest, Mr. Sandeep Marwah, was all praise for the play and spoke about the expression of emotions and theatre at length. The icing on the cake was his promise to have re-runs of the show and support to Ekk Junoon theatre group.
