Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi L-G Anil Baijal on Monday laid foundation stones of several developmental projects worth Rs 292 crore of Delhi Development Authority at Dwarka. These projects include Golf Course, Sports Complex, Foot Over Bridge, Airport Drain, Cycle Track and Utsav Pandal.

On the occasion, Puri said, “The government is committed for overall development of the country and special endeavour has been put it to make the national capital a world class city. The Land Pooling Policy of DDA will help in transforming the developmental prospects of Delhi.”

The minister directed the DDA to complete the projects within stipulated time frame. He also complimented the DDA for envisioning planned development activities of Delhi.

Puri laid foundation stone of a sports complex in Sector 8. It will be a centre of excellence for Wrestling, Weightlifting, Boxing, Judo and Kabaddi and the project will cost Rs 66 crore. It is likely to be completed in 24 months. Another sports complex in Sector 23 will be a centre of excellence for Football and it will be completed in 24 months with a cost of Rs 39 crore.

Foundation stone for a cycle track was laid in Sector 11 with a cost of Rs 9 crore. It is scheduled to be completed in April next year. Among others, foundation stone was laid for four foot over bridges with a total cost of Rs 12 crore. It is scheduled to be completed in August 2020.

This will provide safe road crossing facility to more than 16,200 pedestrians every day. It will reduce traffic congestion and improve traffic speed. It will provide pedestrian connectivity between neighbourhood areas in Sector 1 and sector 7; Madhu Vihar and Sector 4 & 5; NSIT and Sulahkul Mandir; and District Court and General Hospital.

He also laid down foundation stone of an Utsav Pandal in Sector 10 with a cost of Rs 6 crore. It will be used for social functions and community activities. The target date of completion is June 2020.

Foundation stone was laid for a Golf Course which will be completed in next two years. The total cost of the project is Rs 62 crore. It will have 18 holes with 72 par. The minister also laid foundation stone of an airport drain at Dwarka. The drain will start from Rewari Railway line and will connect Trunk drain number 2. It will have a discharge capacity of 70,000 litres per second. The project will be completed in October 2021 with a cost of Rs 98 crore.

On the occasion, Baijal lauded the initiatives of the DDA to execute ten ambitious projects at Dwarka. He hoped to complete the project with utmost quality and in timely manner.

He said, “Owing to population explosion and fast-growing facets of Delhi, the requirements of infrastructure have also increased considerably. The DDA has been addressing such requirements earnestly.”

He emphasised that more green areas are needed in Delhi by developing parks with art and culture. “Non-polluting industrial and commercial establishments should be set up to save environment,” he added.

West Delhi MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri complimented the DDA for taking up developmental activities.   

Tarun Kapoor, Vice Chairman DDA said that Dwarka is being developed as sub-city of Delhi by creating quality infrastructure and setting up compatible environment for housing, national and multinational companies.
