Gurugram: Residents stage protest against encroachment by illegal shopkeepers

Upset over rampant encroachment on green belt and master plan road of Sector 40 and 39, residents of Sector 40 on Wednesday staged a silent protest demonstration seeking immediate action to remove illegal shops from the vicinity.

The residents who participated in the protest expressed their anger over apathetic attitude of the civic authorities in checking rampant encroachment in the vicinity.

Charanjit Diwan, a resident of Sector 40 said, “The green belt of our area has been encroached by illegal shopkeepers but the authorities seem oblivious to the matter. We have been running from pillar to post, but nothing has been done by the authorities. Now we have decided to stage a protest.”

The residents pointed out that more than 12 years have been passed and the administration has failed to clear the encroachment on the Master Road of Sector 40 and 39 and green belt causing immense trouble to the residents.

R S Yadav, RWA President of Sector 40, said, “Despite our repeated complaints, the authorities are not willing to take any action on the illegal vendors encroaching the government land. We have submitted numerous letters to the concerned officials of Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), Municipal Corporation of Gurugram and chief administrator but we are still waiting for their action on the matter.”

The residents from Housing Board Colony, HEWO Apartments, HSIIDC Apartment, Sector 39, 40, 31, 15 part 1 and part 2, Village Jharasa also joined in the demonstration.

Daman Diwan, RWA President of Sector 31, said, “People of the sectors are facing lot of problem due to unchecked encroachment in the area. In the absence of the Master Road, all the traffic diverts to the sector's internal roads risking the life of the residents. Many incidents have been reported in the past yet the authorities seem reluctant to remove the encroachment. Removing the encroachment would not only enhance safety of the sector but also help in reducing pollution.”

The residents have given an ultimatum to the authorities stating that if no action is taken till 31st October, they would sit on an indefinite dharna from 1st November.
