Delhi: People complain about irregularities in zero electricity bill scheme

People got elated in Delhi when they heard the announcement of free electricity up to consumption of 200 units. But, one month down the line, some of them are witnessing completely different picture. Even after consumption of electricity less than 200 units, they are getting electricity bills. The bills are in the range of Rs 1000 and above.

CitySpidey talked to more than a dozen people in Delhi to understand the problem. Madhu, who lives in Bapa Nagar, said that their area falls under JJ cluster. She said, “We live in a three-storey building where different meters have been installed on each of the floors. Consumption is not more than 200 units per meter.”
“Still, we received bills in the range of two to three thousand rupees in the last month. We have lodged a complaint as well,” she added. The irregularities in the bills were found at various other housing societies as well.

A resident of a cooperative housing society of East Delhi, Dhruva Apartments, Sujata Ahluwalia said, “There has been no changes in the bills after the announcement. We are getting the bills as they were earlier. I received a bill of Rs 3,000 in the month of September.”
However, a resident of Nizamuddin DDA flats, Narayan, said that they are getting electricity bills at discounted rates.
One of the BSES (Electricity providing company in Delhi) officers said, “We are not saying bill would reflect zero amount. It includes meter charge, loading capacity etc. Subsidies are also mentioned in the bill if a customer uses less than 200 units.”
