With the festival of lights over a fortnight away residents of Sector 51, Noida, on Sunday organised a Diwali mela at their community centre for convenience of fellow residents of different residential pockets in shopping for Diwali.
It (the mela) commenced with the traditional lighting of lamp by senior citizens of the sector. Many residents, especially homemakers, took keen interest in putting up stalls of home decors, colourful lights, diya (lamp), and jewelries extensively.
For the amusement of the residents, a cultural programme was held where women and children of the sector performed.
“Group dance and singing were the centre of attraction for all as they caught most eyeballs throughout the programme,” said Amrish Tyagi, president of RWA, Sector 51.
He said the residents purchased colourful lights, jewelries and diyas from the mela in preparation for Diwali celebration.
On this occasion, the residents' body honoured super senior citizens (above 80 age group) from the Sector.
The Mela culminated with residents relishing food delicacies. Several residents had arranged food stalls and served all those who had come to enjoy it.
