Women throng markets ahead of Karwa Chauth

Preparation of karwa Chauth was on peak on Wednesday. Working ladies asked for off and house wives finished off their work early so that they could prepare for the festival which falls today, 17th October. Markets were flooded with women buying puja materials. Potters were seen selling clay pots which are used to pay ardh (water) to the moon.

Talking about her first Karwa Chauth, Anjali, a resident of Preet Vihar said, “I am so excited to celebrate my first Karwa Chauth. We follow a ritual of wearing a  sari which is given by mother-in-law. So I have dry cleaned that Khandani Sari (ancestral sari).”

Anjali works in Tata Consultancy and has asked for two days leave.

Mehendi artists from Jaipur have come to Delhi for the festival. Raju, Mehendi artist from Jaipur, said, “We come only for festivals and marriages. We are the team of 10 artists all scattered in different areas.”

On such occasions, parlours revise their price list and give lucrative offers. Some societies also offer free mehendi for residents. In Tilak Nagar, local leader arranged free mehendi facility for women. In East Delhi a combined Karwa Chauth puja is organised for the first time.”
