The AAP government has directed the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) to hire 2,000 CNG-operated buses to ensure smooth public transport during the odd-even scheme which will be implemented from November 4-14.

A cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday, approved the Transport Department's proposal for the engagement of extra CNG operated buses during the odd-even scheme days.

Currently, around 5,500 are operated by the DTC and the Delhi Integrated Multi Modal System (DIMTS).

The department said that to bring down the level of air pollution, reducing road congestion and improving public transport during the odd-even scheme, it has allowed the DTC to hire 2,000 CNG-operated contract carriage buses.

As per  the DTC committee's recommendation, the cabinet also approved the hiring charges of different categories of buses. The rates vary from Rs 49.42 per km for standard size buses to Rs 32.54 per km for medium size buses.

Just like the previous two odd-even rounds, private operators will be invited through public notices to offer their buses.

While drivers will be provided by the owners of the buses, DTC will provide the conducters. The revenue generated from the buses will kept by the DTC.
