Delhi Cabinet sanctions Rs. 36 crore for awareness campaign on pollution

Delhi Cabinet cleared a proposal on Saturday to carry out a mass awareness campaign on pollution and measures to control it. Rs. 36 crore have been sactioned by the cabinet from the budget of Directorate of Information and Publicity for carrying out the campaign which will start soon.

The collective efforts of all the agencies and government at different levels in providing 24x7 electricity, reduction of vehicular traffic due to the eastern-western peripheral highways, closure of thermal powplants, strict enforcement of dust control norms etc have caused a 25 percent reduction in pollution.

Pollution levels increase in Delhi in winters. One of the major factors of pollution in winters is stubble burning, something which the government has no control over, the government said.

To control pollution in the city, the government will be implementing odd-even rationing scheme from 4-14 November, distribute free masks via school children and organise a laser show at Central Park to ensure a cracker free Diwali.
