Sudden disruption of electricity services in Himalaya Pride in Greater Noida's Tech zone 4 turned the residents against the developer. They held a protest demonstration on Sunday blaming him for their predicament.
They say but for the coercive manner in which he incorporated the maintenance charge in the electricity meter without any prior notice they would not have been facing the situation where they have to go without the basic facility.
The residents informed that a message was circulated on Sunday morning through the maintenance app used in the society intimating them that the maintenance charges would be deducted from the pre-paid meter. A few hours later, all the flats in the society plunged into darkness with the balance of pre-paid meter showing zero.
This forced the residents to gherao the builder's office. They held a peaceful sit-in outside the marketing office. Getting no positive response from the builder, they called the police. Following the intervention of the police, the builder promised to restore power to the society by the evening.
However, when the services did not resume well past evening, the residents again approached the builder who cunningly asked them to recharge their meters for electricity. He told them that without any balance in meter electricity cannot be provided to them.
CitySpidey spoke to a resident on Monday afternoon about the situation, who said the services were only resumed for the households which recharged their meters again even as the stalemate continued between the residents and the builder. Since it a working day, the decision could only be taken in the evening or later this week.
