GreNo: No end to civic woes for residents of Omicron 1

With bad roads and lack of proper streetlights, there seems to be no end to the civic problems for the residents of Omicron 1 area in Greater Noida. The rising incidents of crime has also sparked fear among the residents.

The service lane from Omricon-1 roundabout to red society remains pitch dark in the night. Several cases of robbery, snatching have been reported from the area in the past.

The service lanes are used by 5,000 people from four highrise societies along the stretch of one kilometre. But travelling in the night is a tough affair for the people owing to bad state of roads and lack of proper lighting facility in the vicinity.

Talking to CitySpidey, a resident said, “After the snatching incidents, people have stopped carrying their wallet or any other precious thing. They are scared that they will be targeted by the robbers.”

He said that people are preferring apps such as Paytm to avoid carrying wallets with them.

The residents also wrote to the Greater Noida Authority earlier this year requesting them to install street lights. But nothing was done in that direction.

A resident, Shradhha said, “The authorities have turned blind eye towards our security despite knowing that thousands of residents live in the area.”

Many residents have also complained about sighting dangerous reptiles like snakes in the service lane.
Sharing her ordeal, a female resident said, “I spotted a snake while returning home from evening walk. Luckily, no harm was done by the snake.”

Another resident told CitySpidey that they usually avoid going out in the night unless there is something urgent as several criminal activities have been brought to notice.

Anil K Mishra, a resident of Eldeco Mystic Green who has been approaching the authority to install streetlights in the area from past several months told CitySpidey that no action has been taken on his request so far. He said, “Roads are still pitch dark and while driving it becomes very difficult as the entire service lane remains dark.”
