In the wake of Chhath Puja, East Delhi Mayor Anju Kamalkant held a meeting with the leader of House, Nirmal Jain, chairman of a standing committee, Sandeep Kapoor, and senior officials from various departments of the East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) for the preparation of the civic agency ahead of the festival.
During the meeting, the mayor discussed the issues relating to Chhath ghats (river banks) with the officials. The ghats hold a spiritual significace in celebration of the festival. It's on these ghats the devotees gather to perform prayers to Sun.
She instructed the concerned officials to ensure proper maintenance of the ghats with sanitised toilets, lights, mobile dispensaries, repairing of roads connecting the ghats and other basic arrangements.
She directed the officers to extend all the help required to the devotees during the celebration of the festival.
Deputy Commissioner of East and West, Assistant Commissioners, officers from the Department of Environment and Maintenance Service (DEMS), Engineering and Public Health Department were also present at the meeting.
