SDMC intensifies drive against pollution; issues challans against violators

South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has intensified its drive against air and dust pollution in the area. Under this, they are taking action against violators of National Green Tribunal (NGT) norms and Solid Waste Management by-laws.

The SDMC issued 305 challans of Rs 29 lakh on the violators. The challans were issued for open burning of waste and illegal C&D (Construction and Demolition) waste dumping in areas under its jurisdiction. The action was taken for violation of SWM by-laws.

The SDMC is focussing on the hotspots of pollution in all the four zones and prepared action plan to tackle the problem.

Further, the SDMC has planned round the clock patrolling in Punjabi Bagh and Mayapuri in West Zone. The patrolling team will be checking various types of violations causing air pollution in the area.

Among the other measures, eight water sprinklers have been arranged to control the dust pollution in the area. Routes have been redesigned for mechanical road sweepers.
