The department of forest and environment directed the cornered officers to ensure that the rules for control of air and noise pollution should be strictly enforced during the festival season.

Kalpana Awasthi, Principal Secretary with department of forest and environment, recently wrote to all divisional commissioners directing enforcement of the Supreme Court's order for control of air and noise pollution caused during festive season.

She informed each commissioner from respective divisions in the state to ensure complete compliance to the SC order for control of air and noise pollution on the festival of lights.

According to the order, the green fire crackers should be used during celebrations of Diwali. Further, it says that use of threads of firecrackers is prohibited.

In 2018, the court had ordered to use crackers on festival day only between 8 pm to 10 pm. The effort should be made to identify community areas for use of fire crackers during the festival or on any other occasion.

As per the order, only authorised vendor, with license from the concerned authority, can sell firecrackers. Sale of firecrackers by e-commerce platform is prohibited. The authority should create awareness for control of pollution.

It should be ensured by respective station house officer that the rules are adhered to as the order clarifies that it is responsibility of the respective officer to ensure that fire crackers are used only at identified locations during the given time period.

Bursting of cracker within a radius of 100 meters from a school, court and hospital are prohibited.
