Sector 4, Dwarka: 10-15 bicycles stolen in two months

About 10-15 bicycles have been reported stolen in the past two months from residential societies in Sector 4, Dwarka. Om Apartments, Radhika Apartments and Kautilya Apartments have all reported bicycles missing from within their premises.

According to the Radhika Apartments RWA president, SS Chowhan, about five to seven bicycles have gone missing in May and June alone. "The cycles were not locked. We have CCTV footage of two of the bicycles being wheeled out of the society gate by kids about 12-15 years of age. It is difficult for the guards to recognise these children, as many visit the society on bicycles, mostly for tuitions. We have complained to the local police. In some of the cases, an FIR will be filed.”

Three to four such cases have surfaced in Om Apartments as well.

"There were a couple of such thefts even a few months back," said K Wahid, president of the Kautilya Apartments RWA.

The Radhika Apartments RWA has made it mandatory for all children to enter their names at the entry gate. Guards have been given the liberty to question anyone suspicious leaving the society on a cycle.

"We have posted a warning on the notice boards at the front and the rear gates," said Chowhan. "Verification of domestic helps and labourers in the society has also been made mandatory. We have requested all residents to keep their bicycles locked."

Chowhan added that the police suspect a gang at work.

The local police said they were meeting the society guards from time to time and instructing them to keep sharp vigil on all entries and exits.
