Chinese products, pottery items dominate market on Diwali

Despite the government's tough stand on it, Chinese products like candle lights and firecrackers are being sold in abundance in the markets of Delhi. The markets are filled with Chinese products this year. Floating and fragrant candles are in huge demand.

The nearest competition to the Chinese products are pottery products. Decorative diya (oil-lamps), idols of Laxmi and Ganesh and Kandil (decorative lantern) are also attracting the people.

The potters are keeping their fingers crossed for a good season this year. They are expecting higher profits than last year.

To get hold of the selling activties, CitySpidey reached Chandani Chowk area. Near the narrow Parathe Wali Gali, the street vendors were seen selling Chinese products.

A street vendor, Ramesh said, “We deal with Chinese products every year. They are in demand this year as well. However, it is lesser in comparison to last year. Only floating candles and flowers are attracting buyers.”

Another street vendor was found to be selling pottery items. He said, “We have idols of Laxmi and Ganesh, diys and many other decorative items for sales. We are expecting good profits this year. We are hopeful of getting ample amount of buyers this year.”

Nandini, who had come to the market to buy diya from Chawri Bazar, said, “Normally, we prefer traditional decorative items than Chinese items. But, we are finding some beautiful Chinese items. This year, I would be buying both of them.”
