Markets wear festive look ahead of Diwali

Markets were buzzing with activities post midnight on Thursday as custormers were on overdrive to shop in preparation for the festivities. Utensil and dry fruit shops in Delhi-NCR remained with their shutters pulled up for the shoppers as the five-days Diwali festivities came their way this weekend.

A 500 gram dry fruit plate, known to be the perfect traditional Diwali gift, comes in the price range of Rs 400 and Rs 600, depending upon the combination of dry fruits used, while the 700 gram plate costs between Rs 700 and Rs 900.

A dry fruit owner at Lajpat Nagar Central Market told CitySpidey that dates have become favourite among the people this Diwali. "I had to arrange five different varieties of dates after analysing the demand for dates,” he said.

Meanwhile, utensil shop owners in most South Delhi areas were seen offering more options for Dhanteras. Many shops were flooded with buyers while others were busy packing the pre-booked gifts to be delivered the next morning.

A wholesale utensil distributor in Lajpat Nagar said, "My workers have been working day and night for the last 15 days. We are expecting more crowd on Friday and I have asked a few ex-employees to join us on that day. The more men, the better the service for our customers,” he grinned.

Meanwhile, flower contractors were also seen decorating the shops and homes with orange and yellow marigold. Many shops were already decked up with colourful lights and lanterns.
