Markets in Delhi saw a rush of customers looking for firecrackers on Friday, on the occasion of Dhanteras. While green crackers were high on demand this year, many customers complained that they had to settle for traditional crackers as these were not available. Thus, their hopes of celebrating a pollution-free Diwali with decorative crackers made out of silver dashed.
Though a silver cracker set can not be found everywhere, it is widely available in high-end jewellery shops in South Delhi. The approximate price range of a silver set can be anything between Rs 8,000 and Rs 30,000 depending on the weight of silver cracker set starting from 100-gram.
Talking to CitySpidey, a jeweller from South Ex, said, " I made the first silver cracker set last year on demand and then onwards several requests for the same poured in. This year, I decided to display it in my showroom.
He was happy that he could be able to sell over 60 such pieces of silver cracker sets weighing from 100 to 500 grams till now.
Sangeeta, a resident of Lajpat Nagar, said, "I wanted to celebrate an eco-friendly Diwali. Hence, the moment I saw these silver crackers sets in the market, I bought them."
Interestingly, despite seeing a heavy rush in jewellery shops, the Confederation of all India Traders ( CAIT), in a statement on Friday, said that there was a customer slowdown this festive season at the gold and silver retail market, even on the day of Dhateras.
