Five of Hyde Park booked for beating up dog

Five residents of Hyde Park, a high rise residential Society in Sector 78, on Friday were booked for beating up a stray dog in the society.

The incident came to light after a video clip went viral on WhatsApp. The video clip was made by some resident to stir the conscious of fellow residents against the atrocity perpetrated on an innocent animal.

On the basis of the clip, which was shared on the social media group, an animal lover lodged a complaint with the Sector 49 Police Station of Noida. Receiving complaint, the police registered a case against five residents under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

According to sources, stray dogs had attacked many residents in Hyde Park Society in recent past. The residents tried to keep the dogs away from society. But somehow these animals would manage to sneak into the society and create a nuisance every now and then.

Incensed by over the canine menace, a few residents laid a trap in the basement of the society to catch a dog. It's these residents who were seen beating the dog with wooden sticks in the video clip.

According to the local police, the video clip was old. Acting on the written complaint of the animal lover, the police registered a case against all the five, namely Abhishek Tiwari, Ashwini Pathak, Atul, Pushpendra Pratap, and Yogendra under the aforesaid Act.

They also initiated an investigation into the matter and assured that further action would be taken on the basis of their findings.

Reacting to the episode, the Janshakti Sewa Samiti, a social forum, has strongly condemned media reports about a man being charged with beating a stray dog after trapping him in a net.

They lamented that the administration has failed to bring relief to the city grappling with problems arising from the stray dog menace. The indifference of the administration, they say had led a common man to take an initiative to prevent the children, women and senior citizen and others from the attacks of the stray dogs.

Against this backdrop, they contend that projecting the Good Samaritan as a villain is not fair. The incident, they say should be investigated taking into account the larger public perspective.
