Bhai Dooj gift for Delhi women: Increase in number of marshals for buses

In an effort to boost security for women in the National Capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the number of marshals for Delhi buses would be increased to nearly 13,000 on October 29.

The current strength of marshals in buses in Delhi is 3,400.

The announcement, made by Kejriwal on Monday at a public meeting, came a day ahead of the roll out of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government’s scheme to make travel in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses free of cost for women.

Addressing the gathering, he said, “Today, I am entrusting you all with the responsibility to ensure safety for women in each government bus and generate confidence in them so that they feel the comfort of a home in our buses.”

Tomorrow is Bhai Dooj. Kejriwal said on the auspicious day his government was going to increase the number of marshals to nearly 13,000.

The announcement comes months ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections.

Calling Delhi as one big family, the Kejriwal identified himself as the elder son of this family and said, “And being the elder son, from tomorrow I will bear the cost of commuting in DTC buses of our sisters, mothers and daughters.”
