Noida: Local admin claims drop in use of high emission firecrackers this Diwali

The local administration and residents’ body on Monday claimed that usage of high emission firecrackers witnessed a considerable decline in comparison to previous years on Diwali.

City Magistrate, Shailendra Mishra said that many residents refrained from using high emission firecrackers seeing its adverse impact on the environment. He said that residents used green crackers instead of highly polluting firecrackers.

KK Jain, Secretary General of Noida Residents Welfare Association said people have taken effort to comply with the SC's guidelines as bursting of firecrackers were not permitted after 10 pm.

Another resident, Kamini said that RWAs had taken keen interest to educate residents for refraining from the use of high decibel firecrackers. It resulted in lesser number of people using them during the celebrations last night.

“Earlier, everyone used to burst crackers in abundance. The number of people doing that has decreased,” she said.
She said, “As the awareness would increase, more people would comply with it. More effort should be taken to create awareness among all.”

Some societies intimated their residents in writing to come forward for saving the environment by not using firecrackers extensively.

D K Singh, President of Grand Ajnara Heritage, a high rise in Sector 74, said they wrote to all families in the society to say no to excessive use of firecrackers this Diwali. “Many of them agreed as they did not use firecrackers during celebration,” he said.
