Five arrested for violation of SC order on crackers

Noida police on Monday arrested five people for selling banned firecrackers and using them in violation of Supreme Court order to control of air and noise pollution during Deepavali or festive season. The action was taken following instruction by BN Singh, District Magistrate, Gautam Buddha Nagar.

According to an official with the administration, three people were arrested for using banned firecrackers under suspicion of disrupting peace. The three are Aashu, Sandeep and Mubina, who were arrested from Sector 20, Sector 24 and Phase-II respectively for violation of the SC order. They were booked and sent to jail, the official said.

The local police also arrested two people found selling banned firecrackers in the area under the jurisdiction of Phase-II police station. They were booked under Section 286 of IPC for the negligence of explosive items. The police charged them under section 9B of Explosive Act, the official added.

The district administration enforced strict rules for the citizens in compliance with the SC order, which prohibits the sale of high decibel firecrackers and their use. Hence, any violation of the rule was to be dealt with strict action.

However, swayed by festival season, many residents cared little about the orders and went on bursting high decibel firecrackers even yesterday night, a day after Diwali. While the court had given a window of two hours for cracker bursting, many Diwali revellers exceeded the time limit and kept on burning firecrackers well into the late night.
