Around 25 residents, including women and children, of Aravali Apartment, a society in Sector 34, Noida, prepared a 31 feet long effigy of Govardhan to celebrate the victory of Lord Krishna over Indira. It took them more than 12 hours to prepare the effigy and decorate it with colours.

Govardhan is deity worshipped and prayed for his blessings to keep good health and save from natural calamities.

They embarked on the task on Sunday night after celebrating Diwali and accomplished it by the day.

Dhirendra Sharma, a resident, said, “Everyone showed great enthusiasm in preparing the effigy. We were present at the site throughout the preparation.”

This is the second consecutive year of  Govardhan Puja celebration in the society. Last year, the residents had made an effigy of Govardhan measuring 15 feet long. “Excited by last year's success, this year, we decided to raise the height of Govardhan,” added Sharma.

Many residents from nearby residential sectors visited Sector 34 to get a glimpse of the mammoth effigy and offer prayers.
