After celebrating Diwali with full zeal and enthusiam, residents of Gurugram are now gearing up for Chhath Puja. In anticipation of the hectic festivities, district administration, social organisations and RWAs of the millennium city are busy finalising plans for smooth conduct of the Chhath Utsav.

The four-day long celebration will begin on Thursday with Nahay-Khay ritual followed by Kharna on the second day. On the third day, devotees will offer Arghya to Sun in the evening, while on the fourth day they will offer Arghya in the morning. 

As a large number of people residing in the city belong to Purvanchal community, Chhath celebration has become an integral part of the society. The rituals of Chhath are rigorous and observed over a period of three days. including bathing, round-the-clock fasting without drinking water, offering prasad and arghya to the rising and setting sun.

This is one of the important celebrations for the people from Purvanchal. More than 32 ghats (ponds) across the city, including Brahma Sarovar at Sheetla Mata Temple, Mankameshwar Temple Complex at Devi Lal Nagar, Fountain Park in Sector 4, Shaktipeeth Temple in Sector 41, Maruti Kunj and many others, are being cleaned up for the celebration.

Satyendra Singh, president of Pravasi Ekta Manch said, “Like every year, we have made all kinds of preparations, such as artificial ghats, security, hygiene etc, for the devotees so that no inconvenience is caused to them. We have also made arrangement for cultural programme to add more vibrancy to the festivity. We will create awareness about increasing air pollution and avoiding using single use plastic bags during the festivity.”
