With monsoon round the corner, the Gurgaon district administration has directed all the RWAs of the city to ensure that the rainwater harvesting systems in their areas are functional.
Deputy Commissioner TL Satya Prakash said the step has been taken with a view to avoid waterlogging during the rainy season.
The RWAs have been issued guidelines on how to maintain rainwater harvesting systems. They can take the help of Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) officials in case they face any difficulty in carrying out the task.
Recently, Sushant Lok and Nirwana County have set an example in ensuring that their rainwater harvesting units are clean and functional.
Reflecting the mood of the residents, Sanu Kapila, RWA president of Nirvana Country, said, “It is our responsibility to do our bit to save Mother Nature. Otherwise, we all have to pay for our collective negligence.”
He said that his society has got all rainwater harvesting units cleaned and harvesting pits readied to capture rainwater to improve groundwater levels. “Following the guidelines of the district administration is our priority,” he asserted.
Speaking to City Spidey, MCG Commissioner TL Satyaprakash said, “The city has been declared the ‘dark zone’ for groundwater depletion. Hence, it is our moral obligation to try and improve the city's groundwater levels.”
