Aiming to introduce some green in Noida's concrete jungle, the Authority launched a tree-planting drive on Tuesday. The initiative kicked off from a 10-acre vacant plot in Sector 100, earmarked to be developed as a green belt. Pratibha Raman, wife of Noida Authority chairman Rama Raman, was present at the event.

Encouraging residents and schoolchildren to plant saplings, Pratibha Raman stressed on how Noida's skyline had become just an array of high-rise buildings, with very few trees. She said it was the responsibility of the people of Noida to make the city greener.

Noida Authority is expected to plant as many as 4,000 saplings on the plot.

Omvir Singh, director of the horticulture department, Noida Authority, told City Spidey that this was a huge step in increasing Noida's green cover. "We will plant saplings for 1 lakh fruit-bearing trees and 3.5 lakh ornamental plants across the city," said Singh.
