East Delhi residents have a tough time addressing civic issues

The monthly meeting, where the RWAs put forth their issues to Delhi government officials, has not been held for the past two years.

Residents of 22 group housing societies in Mayur Vihar Extension have been having a tough time addressing civic issues in the area.

Earlier, the RWAs used to put across their problems in a monthly meeting comprising officials from Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), horticulture department and East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC). With the meeting discontinued, residents no longer have a forum to discuss their problems.

"There has not been a single meeting in the past two years," said Ummed Singh, a member of Federation of Development Corporative Society (FEDCOS), a representative body of 22 group housing societies in Mayur Vihar Extension. "The meeting used to be held at the East Delhi Deputy Commissioner's office in Shastri Nagar. All Delhi government officials present at the meeting used to take note of our issues seriously. Now we are left with no choice but to run from one office to another."

Singh further added that representatives of several group housing societies had written to the Delhi government and EDMC, but were yet to receive a response.
